The jay is a member of the crow family and to be found throughout the British Isles except the far north of Scotland. The jay is a secretive bird, lives in woodland especially where there are oak trees. It feeds mainly on acorns but will also eat insects, beetles fruits, nuts, eggs, nestlings of other birds and small mammals.

Garden visitors attracted by providing soaked dog biscuits on the lawn edges close to bushes. May try to take peanuts from feeders. The birds often bury any extra food until it is needed
